2015 WCFC Summer Food Program

“Many children and families eagerly look forward to the end of the school year and the carefree days of summer, playing outside in the warm sun, splashing and swimming in pools and at beaches, and gathering with family and friends for backyard barbecues. But for more than 17 million the end of school can be the end of certainty about where their next meal will come.”
(Children’s Defense Fund)

Families with children who eat lunch at school during the school year, have somehow to find extra food during the summer for their children. And kids are always hungry.

Last year’s Summer Food Program for Children was our first and it was a great success. When parents learned that in July and August they could take home an extra box of great food items for each of their school-aged children, at first they did not believe it – and then they were very happy and grateful.

For our clients who live on limited budgets, this made a huge difference and we are delighted to report that we are to repeat the program this summer.
We are getting ready to fill 1,000 boxes of extra food for our WCFC clients with school-aged children this summer.

We would love you to help out with a financial donation! Any donation will be most welcome, but here are some ideas:

  • $50 will buy 30 cans of chicken breast
  • $70 will buy 50 boxes of oatmeal
  • $100 will buy 200 cans of vegetables
  • $500 will buy 250 boxes of cereal
  • $1,000 will buy 1,000 jars of spaghetti sauce

Checks payable to:  West Chester Food Cupboard (545 E. Gay St. West Chester, PA 19380)

Thank you!
